We’ve found a place to call home! Located in the historic stadium district on the green of Wright Park in Tacoma, this former American Legion meeting hall offers easy access. The building looks out onto the Wright Park garden arboretum, offering an ideal gathering space for our whole community to meet in the heart of Pierce county. Surrounded by key sectors– 4 college campuses, top regional hospitals, robust business districts and a vital intersection of socioeconomic diversity in Tacoma, the property sits between low-income and high-income neighborhoods. The building would act as a catalyst for community partnerships with individuals and organizations working to advance civic and cultural harmony. We look forward to partnering with the community to build pathways to create reconciliation, and broaden understanding and relationships between people to establish more just and caring communities.
Our Vision for Tacoma
Situated in the heart of a vibrant city with 20,000 college students within a 5-mile radius, our envisioned community center aims to serve both our church and the broader community. The central location, adjacent to the Tacoma Link Light rail, addresses the transportation challenges faced by single moms and low-income families.
This multifaceted facility will also act as a hub for supporting local foster care communities, leveraging its additional space and strategic location in Pierce County. Furthermore, given the city's rich artistic history, the building's unique beauty will be harnessed to shape the cultural landscape. Envisaged as a haven for rest and renewal, we see it hosting concerts, art events, and cultural attractions, including a third-wave coffee shop and a performing arts venue open to the public.
We have felt God's hand on this property. We were able to visit the site the day the building hit the market and quickly enter a feasibility agreement, which means we’re at the critical stages here. The building needs considerable renovations due to deferred maintenance. We don't want to see this opportunity to impact the city of Tacoma for the Kingdom slip by. Scope of Work
We are currently in the intial phases of a 4-6 month construction phase. As a valued partner in this transformative endeavor, donors will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Garden City Church and impacting the greater Pierce County community. Below are some details for the construction phase.
Exterior
Roof replacement - $100,000.
Remove and replace approximately 4600 sf of TPO top layer
Masonry Repair - $75,000
Parking lot repair - $25,000
Interior
Creating a state-of-the-art next gen facility - $150,000
Tacoma is lacking in resources for both kids and youth. We imagine creating a space for kids to learn how to love like Jesus
Additional bathrooms and plumbing $100,000
Includes: 2000 sf of new walls with drywall on both sides, 4800 sf of LVT flooring,
4800 sf of drywall ceiling, 8 lf of p-lam countertops, and bathroom accessories.
Espresso Stand/shop - $100,000.
Electrical upgrade to meet current and potential needs - $150,000.
Abatement - $100,000
